Drawing Data

Data is everywhere. Using methods of creative research, students will investigate and explore the world around them, searching for data. They will collect their observations in evolving archives, iterating on modes of communication, including digital illustration, documentary media, data analysis, and information design. The output of the course will consist of small weekly projects, responding to the work of data-driven artists, designers, writers, and engineers. The semester will culminate in the production of a larger creative data visualization project that illuminates a story or pattern via data uncovered during their research.
