The course focuses on contemporary topics in labor economics from a macroeconomic perspective. It analyzes topics such as labor supply, labor demand and unemployment. Estimation of the natural rate of unemployment, maximum employment, the Beveridge Curve and the Phillips curve are covered. We conclude with an analysis of trend changes in the labor market such as the rise and flattening of the female labor force participation rate, aging of workers and firms, the decline in the labor share and labor market dynamism.We examine cases in the Hemisphere (Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador), Afghanistan, and Sudan.
