This course surveys European Art from c.1580 to c. 1800. Paintings, sculpture, prints, and drawings will be considered in their political, religious, and cultural context. Artists studied include Rembrandt, Rubens, Bernini, and Hogarth as well as Caravaggio, Velazquez, Vermeer, and Goya. Some study of works of art in the Princeton University Art Museum and New York.
