This course provides an overview of politics in the Middle East. We explore whether and how a variety of factors such as religion, oil, and foreign intervention have contributed to the persistence of authoritarianism in the region. Topics include the politics of redistrbiution, gender, protest, voting, and the Arab-Israeli conflict.
