Info tab content
We examine the politics and political economy of inequality and the welfare state, focusing on the institutions and policies of rich democracies. Why has inequality risen faster in certain countries? What is the relationship between equality, redistribution, and economic growth? We review models of policy choice by self-interested voters in a majoritarian setting. We study how different economic & political institutions such as firms, unions, and electoral systems shape policy outcomes across contexts & various issue areas such as wealth inequality and housing. We conclude by discussing new divisions and the future of the welfare state.
