Topics in Policy Analysis (Half-Term): Machine Learning for Policy decisions

Machine learning is a field at the intersection of statistics and computer science that uses algorithms to extract information and knowledge from data. Its applications increasingly find their way into social science problems and policy decisions. This course offers a brief introduction into this vast toolbox, illustrates its current uses in the social sciences and policy realm, and discusses the question of fairness and bias that algorithmic decision-making inevitably raises.
