This course focuses on key challenging moments in US foreign policy by focusing on media accounts. We learn from the re-telling of some familiar stories with the benefit of hindsight, different perspectives and critical discernment. Specifically, we focus on Vietnam, and post-9/11, the invasions and interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan. This course analyzes these failures and missteps of US foreign policy through a deep dive into alternative ways of looking at moments in history. Beyond written accounts, we also rely on podcasts, films, documentaries and lectures.
