This laboratory course complements NEU 501A and introduces students to the variety of techniques and concepts used in modern neuroscience, from the point of view of experimental and computational/quantitative approaches. This course includes neural recording spanning single unit and large scale methods (including 2-photon calcium imaging and Neuropixels recordings), optogenetic manipulations of behavioral circuits, and computational modeling of neural encoding and network dynamics. The capstone of the course is a 2-week independent research project designed and carried out by students.
